KateIn October 2025 we launched EARNM Layer 2 to give Mystery Boxes and EARN'M rewards a fast, low-cost, transparent home. It did that job well, passing 23,000 daily transactions soon after launch. Today we're announcing that EARNM L2 will be sunset on December 1st, 2026.
💡Why we're doing this
In October 2025 we launched EARNM L2 to give Mystery Boxes and rewards a fast, cheap, transparent home. It worked technically. Within weeks it was processing over 23,000 transactions a day, with every Mystery Box drop and opening recorded on-chain.
A high transaction count is not the same as a sustainable chain. EARNM L2 was designed to make reward actions nearly free, so each transaction brings in very little in fees. A dedicated chain also has fixed costs that don't shrink when activity is low: sequencing, infrastructure, security monitoring, and data availability. Over the past year those costs have consistently been higher than what the chain earns, and we don't see a realistic path for that to change.
The landscape has also changed. In recent weeks several app-specific chains have announced they are winding down. Users, liquidity, and builders are concentrating on a few large networks, and running a standalone chain no longer makes sense for most projects.
As part of our CEX-to-DEX transition, $EARNM liquidity sits in our Uniswap pool on Arbitrum. Putting our on-chain activity on the same network removes bridging friction and puts everything in one place.
This is a decision about infrastructure, not about direction. Transparent, on-chain rewards remain core to EARN'M. They will now run on a larger, more battle-tested network.
✏️ What's changing
- SmartNode gas-fee share: SmartNode holders were set to receive a share of gas fees generated on EARNM L2. Once the chain is shut down it won't generate fees, so this reward stream ends on December 1st.
- Partners: We’re helping partners that use EARNM L2 with the migration and providing resources accordingly.
Nothing else changes. You keep your SmartNodes, and governance, staking, and their other rewards continue as normal. $EARNM balances and liquidity on Arbitrum and Base are not affected.

- Is EARN'M shutting down? No. Only the EARNM L2 chain is being retired.
- Are my assets safe? Yes. Nothing you own is lost, and no action is required.
- Do I need to bridge anything off EARNM L2? No. The team handles the migration.
- Will SmartNodes earn less? Only the L2 gas-fee share ends. Governance, staking, and all other rewards continue as normal.
- What’s happening to Mystery Boxes? They move to Arbitrum with the rest of our on-chain activity. Our team is handling the migration, so there’s nothing you need to do.
